Town of Johnston donates older fire truck to people of Guatemala

This week the Town of Johnston announced their donation of an older Johnston fire truck to the people of a Guatemalan community.

The event was hosted by the Johnston Fire Department and Mayor Joseph Polisena Jr, along with the Johnston Town Council, at Johnston Fire Department headquarters on Atwood Avenue.

The fire truck is 24-25 years old, and has been in service in Johnston since 1999, and it was taken out of service about four months ago.

It is being donated to the organization Hope of Life International. The group is based in Cranston, and was founded by Johnston residents.

About Hope of Life International:

The stated mission of Hope of Life International is “to save lives”. They respond to poverty according to a needs-based approach. Their program strategies are developed according to cultural context, driven with global Sustainable Development Goals in mind, and delivered in a manner that is accountable to beneficiaries. The organizational commitment to accountability extends to field staff and international volunteers in the form of support and training, and to donors by demonstrating the effective, efficient and ethical use of resources. They say, “We work hard to ensure that our interventions compliment the efforts of local and national government in a coordinated fashion. We believe that the way in which we work with marginalized communities through the individualization of our programming, our training and communication, and the relationships we build, is just as important as the services we provide”.
